It has been a long and trying four weeks that could stretch to four decades if the well positioned are not courageous and clear - now. Every day brings example after example of Congress ceding their power to the executive branch, and the executive branch demonstrating that they cannot be trusted with one more ounce of power. I love your light and airy Friday Feels and Fancy posts, and also get that this particular Friday it is not in the cards. God Bless America?

Diana, I enjoy reading your thoughts. To kill a Mockingbird, an American classic yet a band book in many parts of the USA, is one of my favorites. The actors they chose to portray the characters were perfect.

I, like you, wake up every day, dreading to read our national news. The chaos this administration is creating is a nightmare. I hope our constitutional Republic can withstand this purposeful destruction.

Susan, thank you for your thoughtful comments -and for reminding us that To Kill A Mockingbird is now a banned book! Your phrase “purposeful destruction” is right on point.

Thank you SO much-both for your comments and the honor of the Restack. As we discussed earlier this week, there was an urgent need to “express”! Now I can return to Chantilly and WWII 💕

Thanks for mentioning my essay in your powerful post today, Diana. I’m glad you mentioned those two tragic children from A Christmas Carol because they have been on my mind too. Because they got us here.

This week Judy Woodruff interviewed author and Harvard professor Robert Putnam, who traces our current divide back to them. And also to isolation, which has been exploited by the new populists.

Apparently we’ve been here before during the Gilded Age but pulled out of it. So there’s a silver lining at least. Here’s a link to the interview. Thanks again for mentioning my piece and for reminding us of Harper Lee’s great novel. https://youtu.be/5cVSR8MSJvw?si=d3EgtWVdSteGNmLh

Thank you for reading and commenting. We are indeed facing a dangerous road ahead, but I have to try and find ways to continue to cling to hope-even though as evidenced in this post, I’m currently finding it difficult to do. Sending you 💕
